Butter Cookie Cutouts

Here is a recipe for those cutout cookies. You can your favorite flavors, nuts, dried fruits, chocolates to make them special.img_4354

1 cup butter (soft)
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well. Beat in the buttermilk and extracts. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl and mix well. Gradually add the flour mixture to the cream mixture and mix well. Cover and chill for 2 hours.

Flour your work surface lightly and roll your dough out to a 1/4 thickness for cookie cutting. Or you can add your favorite items and drop rounded teaspoon on to a lightly greased cookie sheet. Place them at least 1″ apart. ( do not allow the mix to become to warm prior to baking or they will spread more than 1″)

Bake at 350 for 6-7 minutes or until lightly brown on the edges, allow to cool completely before removing from the sheet pan.
